Hey all! I’m back after a LONG blog absence with a ridiculously easy project for you guys! With a few squares of fabric, a sewing machine, and an iron – you can whip up these sweet little coasters in an hour or two!
The lightbulb behind these coasters came from a recent trip to Urban Outfitters, where I saw these patchwork pillow shams. After looking at the price tag, I scoffed to my ever patient husband, “I could totally make that”. ”Of course you can honey”, he said as he glanced longingly toward the exit. I took a quick photo on my cell phone and left the store.
I wanted to try to “weave” the front pieces together rather than actually piece them like a patchwork quilt. Because I like the idea of the little folds of fabric and I’m a sucker for a shortcut that doesn’t look like a shortcut. I decided to try it out on a smaller scale and these adorable coasters were born! And an even better shortcut: they’re made from squares of a pre-cut charm pack. No cutting, no measuring. Sometimes I’m brilliant. (If you decide to actually cut the fabric yourself, you’re going for 5″ squares and a 1/4″ seam all the way around – which will leave you with a 4.5″ square coaster. Feel free to change up the sizes!)

This tutorial is so easy, I can do it all in photos:

That’s it. It’s ridiculous how easy and quick and pretty these are! And perfect for your morning coffee. Or making casual dinners seems a little fancier, or even as a crumb catcher for your oatmeal cookies. I think I need huge stacks of these for every season. And I can’t wait to try this technique on some pillow shams!

Have a beautiful weekend everyone! And if you decide to whip some of these together, be sure to post photos to the Facebook page – I’d love to see the patterns you come up with. :)
